Art has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember. When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up my answer was always, “an Artist”. In grade school, my sketchbook would turn into a playground for stick figures to climb around on mountains or make-believe planets or gigantic bowls of fruit they needed ladders to climb. To me a canvas was a portal to another world, of one that I had full creative control. I am fascinated and often frustrated by the world around me and how it could look to other living beings. Inspired by books like Cassie’s Magic Flowers and James and the Giant Peach, my imagination led me to see splendor in the unlikely and the possibility of beauty in all things.
As an artist I enjoy expressing an idea, emotion or feeling through my work. Whether it is through saturated colors of paint, ink rolled out on an etched stone or carved wood block, preplanned or candid photography, my energy at the time usually guides me to the applicable medium for the piece. Taking one concept or idea and finding numerous ways to express it, is my desire.
My hope is to encourage individuals to refresh the way they think. To look beyond the average and see the natural splendor where you may not otherwise find it. By helping others find the best or most interesting way to communicate or let out their own emotions through various art mediums, I hope to inspire the art community.
